Winemakers' MusingsNOVEMBER 25, 2009: I had a customer email me this morning indicating that he was going to a Thanksgiving dinner where everyone wants red wine. He was planning on bringing South Coast Winery's Wild Horse Peak Sangiovese and South Coast Winery Syrah. For the third bottle choice, he was torn between South Coast Winery's Cabernet Sauvignon or the South Coast Winery Zinfandel. I liked the fact that red wine was going to be abundant on the Thanksgiving table, as it will also be prevalent on my table too. To answer our customer's question, and perhaps yours, both the South Coast Winery 2006 Cucamonga Valley Zinfandel and the South Coast Winery Cabernet Sauvignon are wonderful choices. If you have not tried South Coast Winery's Wild Horse Peak Meritage, it too would be a nice option. Obviously, it seems as though this customer prefers reds that are bigger and bolder, or I would have suggested the perennial favorite South Coast Winery Ruby Cuvee-----I like it because it is like liquid cranberry sauce. I would be remiss too if I did not mention that we just released our 2009 Pinot Grigio, although it is white, it is the perfect match for turkey (especially if it is dry). The Wild Horse Peak Cabernet Franc is a new release, but oh, it is very nice. Check it out as well. Have a wonderful Thanksgiving and enjoy your family and friends! |
